In 1999 PC PAL developed growth charts for the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare. These charts replaced the official national charts dating from 1976. After 1999 the chart component for Sweden have been refined several times and it now contains many new and improved features in order to make the auxological measurements and calculations more effective and easy to view. The Growth Chart Component developed for Sweden is the most sophisticated in our range.
There are three different series of growth charts used in Sweden and PC PAL has developed computerized versions for all three. In fact the official growth charts used in Sweden are based on the graph framework developed by PC PAL:
- BVC childcare clinic charts
- Swedish school charts
- Swedish hospital charts
- Turner syndrome
- Down syndrome
- Growth charts with extended SD
- Lists with tables for measurements, calculations and birth data.
Special features for the Swedish growth chart component:
- The component makes it possible to use a two-page layout, which corresponds to the layout of the official paper charts and which makes the charts easier to view.
- Logarithmic scales are used in some areas of the graph in order to receive more detailed information, which makes it easier to follow the child's growth development at early stages.
- The component contains a chart for premature children and also automatic premature corrections. This means that the program plots a second curve on the growth chart by subtracting the missed months of gestational time from the child's chronological age (this is done until the age of 2 years). So if a 5 months old baby was born 2 months early it will be plotted automatically as a 3 month-old. This is done because the 5 months old premature baby has in fact missed two months of growing compared to a 5 months old baby born on time.
- There is also a section covering pubertal information to see if the child's puberty is early or late.
- It includes charts for Turner syndrome and for Down syndrome. These charts are displayed together with the reference for the Swedish normal population, which facilitates comparison.
